VADM Sam Gravely inducted into SNA symposium / Hall of Fame – USS Gravely Assumes Flagship of SNMG1

“On Thursday, January 17th, 2019 Vice Admiral Samuel Gravely was inducted into the Surface Navy Association (SNA) Hall of Fame.  CAPT Alysa Ambrose, a former USS GRAVELY Commanding Officer, was primarily responsible for VADM Gravely being recognized.  The event was attended by over a thousand people of all ranks and many from industry including Admiral Phil Davidson, Commander Indo-Pacific Command.   Mrs. Gravely attended the event and was in great spirits. Mrs. Gravely was surrounded by many family members, the Principals of Gravely Elementary School located in Haymarket VA, and many, many admirers. As the event closed, there was a very long line of people who came by the table to greet and chat with Mrs Gravely.

DC NNOA – Christmas ROCKS Party

On Thursday, December 13, 2018, the Washington, DC Chapter of the National Naval Officers Association (DCNNOA) held its Annual Christmas Social with the Army ROCKS, Inc. at the Patton Hall Officers Club at Joint Base Myer – Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia.  This year’s social was hosted by DCNNOA and like in previous years featured good food, lively conversation and a DJ that rocked the house.  Members, friends and family members of DCNNOA and the ROCKS had a great time.  CAPT (Ret) Thomas Abernathy, USN President of DCNNOA and COL (Ret) Shelia R. Howell-Flowers, USA  President of the Washington, DC Chapter of the ROCKS addressed those in attendance and wished everyone a “Joyous, Safe  and Happy Holiday Season!”

In addition, this year’s social was attended by NNOA National President RADM (Ret) Sinclair Harris, USN as well as a number of retired United States Army General Officers that are longtime members of the ROCKS.  We were also pleased to have in attendance a number of our partners and colleagues from the Navy League of the United States Headquarters Office.

RADM Mack C. Gaston, USN (Ret) – 2018

RADM (Ret) Mack C. Gaston, USN passed on 2 December 2018.  RADM (Ret) Gaston was a longtime NNOA member and a longtime member of the DCNNOA Chapter and Executive Board.  A true trailblazer, outstanding Naval Officer and leader and most importantly an outstanding human being.  The loss of this great patriot will be felt to all at NNOA and throughout our nation.  The NNOA Executive Board and its members send their heartfelt sympathies and condolences to his family, friends and loved ones!
