Dear NNOA Members,

More news and updates……

The NNOA membership made the following changes to our by-laws at our 2016 annual conference. You can read the amendments in their entirety on our website: NNOA.org

  • Added sexual orientation as a trait that NNOA will not use to deny membership. Currently, the only traits that the NNOA Articles of Incorporation list that cannot be used to deny membership into NNOA are race, creed, color, sex, religion and national origin.
  • The Articles of Incorporation were modified to allow voting for BoD nominees during the week of the Conference and not just during the dates of the Conference. Currently the Articles of Incorporation only allow for voting for BOD nominees during the dates of the Conference.
  • Replaced terms Public Affairs Officer and Judge Advocate General with the terms Public Relations Officer and Legal Advisor, respectively.
  • In Membership processing, the period of regular membership for each member will be one year from the date that member submits his or her payment.
    • Know of a job opening that would benefit our members transitioning or already transitioned? You can post job openings to our website. (set up a link here so they can click n go straight to our page for this)
    • Know of a death in our NNOA family? Please let us all know by submitting the death notice via our website for posting in our new Memorial section. (same as above)
  • Treasurer’s report and membership report now posted for your viewing pleasure.
    • Where will you be July 25-27, 2017? San Diego? Conference planning is all ahead full. You can make your Conference lodging reservation now. Go to www.nnoa.org and follow the prompts.
    • Video Telephone Conference (VTC) capability available. If you would like to conduct NNOA meetings from home, consider using our VTC. For information and training, contact out IT Chair, Captain Mike Francis, USN, RET, at e-mail: mdfran@bellsouth.net.
  • Finally, do you have general operation questions or comments? Do you have a career question? Can you use a prayer or some inspiration from our Chaplain? Communicate with your BoD. We are working for you!

Dear NNOA Members,

Tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day is a day for us to reflect on the many things that we are thankful for. Please add to your list our Founders and Visionaries who saw fit to establish NNOA. Our Board of Directors and Committees who go above and beyond every day of the year to help members and each other. Personally, I’m thankful for the time spent with my family, my health, and the opportunity for personal and professional growth.

If you’re traveling to be with loved ones across town or across the country, may the journey be a safe one and your time filled with laughter. Thanksgiving is an opportunity to realize that we have much for which we can be thankful. This truly traditional holiday allows us to focus on our blessings and the freedoms we enjoy. Be safe and take time to reflect on our many blessings.

Sincerely,

CDR Denise J. McCallaCreary, USN (Ret)
President

July 2016

Dear Members, Friends, and Supporters of NNOA,

I take the helm of this organization in its 44th year with enthusiasm, commitment and great passion. Many of you have that same energy and drive to propel our organization, and ultimately, our Sea Services forward. With that, I charge us all to commit to strengthening our resolve and putting our collective shoulders to the wheel to see the mission done.

Over the next several years, we must focus on providing our junior officers the best training and mentorship to achieve their full potential as our Nation’s future leaders. We must also continue to reach out to the youth in our respective communities to expose them to the vast opportunities within the Sea Services. Ever cognizant of the need to deepen our organizational roots, we must nurture our relationships with our retired community and continue to tap their wealth of experience and sage counsel. We must build upon our recently renewed ties with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration integrating them into the very fabric of our organization. This will be critically important as we expand the reach and impact of NNOA. Finally, we must maintain our charitable spirit as an organization and as individual members and give back to our communities at every turn.

NNOA, we have gained great momentum over the last several years. But, our work is not done. We must move even further upward and onward! I look forward to serving you over the next two years and I am counting on your support!

Yours in Service,

pres-sig-denise
