Lieutenant Colonel Quentin Vaughn Force Preservation Officer, III MEF
Lieutenant Colonel Quentin Vaughn was born and raised in Dallas, TX and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1997 with a B.S. in Economics. After The Basic School he attended the Financial Management Officer Course and was subsequently stationed at MCAS Iwakuni with Combat Service Support Detachment-36 (CSSD-36). At CSSD-36 he participated in the Fleet Assistance Program with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron and served as the Officer In Charge (OIC) of the Travel Section and Disbursing Office. During his tenure in Iwakuni he deployed to participate in exercises Southern Frontier-98 and Crocodile-99.
In 2000, 1stLt Vaughn was selected to attend flight school through the Fleet Accession Program. In July 2001 he was promoted to Captain. In August 2002 Captain Vaughn graduated from flight school and was assigned to Marine Helicopter Training Squadron-164 (HMM(T)-164) at Camp Pendleton for training in the CH-46E Sea Knight.
During March 2003 Captain Vaughn transferred to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron-265 (HMM-265) at MCAS Futenma. While assigned to the Dragons of HMM-265 he served as the Adjutant, Flight Officer, Director of Safety and Standardization, NATOPS Officer, and the Airframes OIC. He participated in numerous exercises and deployed with the 31st MEU to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
During January 2007 Captain Vaughn checked into HMM(T)-164 to become an Instructor Pilot and later during the year was promoted to Major. While assigned to the Knightriders of HMM(T)-164 he served as the Ground Safety Officer, NATOPS Officer/CH-46E Program Manager/NATOPS Evaluator, and the Executive Officer.
During 2009 Major Vaughn received orders to Marine Helicopter Squadron-1 (HMX-1). While assigned to the Nighthawks of HMX-1 he served as the Assistant S-1 Officer, S-4 Department Head, Plans Officer and as the Plans Department Head.
During 2013 Major Vaughn received orders to the command element of III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF). While at III MEF he has served as the Force Preservation Officer. In July 2014 he was promoted to his present rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Lieutenant Colonel Vaughn’s personal decorations include: Air Medal with strike/flight numeral three, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star (second award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star (second award), and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal with Bronze Star (second award).
Lieutenant Colonel Vaughn is married to Tonia from Jacksonville, FL.
