May Commissioning Ceremony for Tuskegee University’s NROTC Unit

Seven new officers entered the ranks of this nation’s greatest Navy during the May Commissioning Ceremony for Tuskegee University’s NROTC Unit.  NNOA Member, Ashley N. Adams is seen in this video receiving her Ensign ‘pinning’ from her former NJROTC Senior Naval Science Instructor, Captain Mary E. McAdams USN RET.  Master Chief James Ferguson, USN RET is the recipient of her first salute as an Ensign. Master Chief Ferguson was Ensign Adams’ Naval Science Instructor at Southwest DeKalb High School.

Ensign Adams hails from Atlanta, Georgia and received her BS in Mechanical Engineering.
She will begin her career onboard the USS Germantown (LSD 42) homeported in Sasebo, Japan. Once she receives her Surface Warfare Officer qualifications, Ensign Adams will attend Engineering Duty Officer School

The Department of the Navy pays tuition, fees, $375 per semester for textbooks, and provides a monthly stipend. Freshmen on scholarship receive $250, sophomores $300, juniors $350, and seniors $400 per month. Active duty pay for summer training is approximately $560 per month with living quarters and meals provided.  Tuskegee University currently pays full room and board for all NROTC scholarship recipients.
